 BANTAMA GETS BRIGHTER: ASENSO-BOAKYE DISTRIBUTES 400 STREETLIGHTS TO BOOST SECURITY

The Member of Parliament for Bantama, Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye, has distributed 400 streetlights to eight electoral areas within the Bantama Constituency as part of efforts to improve security, visibility and socio-economic activities in the area.

The beneficiary electoral areas are Bantama Ahenbronum, Abrepo Junction, North Suntreso, Adoato-Adumanu, Bohyen-Ampabame, Abrepo Mpatasie, Kokoso-Asubonteng and Ohwim Amanfrom.

The presentation took place on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the forecourt of the Bantama Constituency Office.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Asenso-Boakye noted that despite significant investments in streetlight projects over the years, several communities within the constituency continue to experience inadequate lighting at night.

According to the Bantama MP, more than 5,000 streetlights have been distributed and installed across the constituency since he assumed office, with the objective of improving security and creating a safer environment for residents.

He, however, expressed concern over the persistent challenges of theft, vandalism and damage to installed streetlights.

«“We are aware of the challenges affecting the streetlights, including theft and damage, and we are taking steps to resolve them. I will continue to provide streetlights whenever the need arises to ensure that our communities remain safe and well-lit,” he said.»

The MP explained that each of the eight beneficiary electoral areas would receive 50 streetlights, bringing the total distribution to 400 units.

He tasked the eight Assembly Members and the eight NPP Electoral Area Chairpersons, together with the incoming Constituency Chairman, to ensure that the streetlights are fairly distributed and installed at locations where they are most needed.

Hon. Asenso-Boakye said the initiative is expected to improve visibility at night, strengthen community security, reduce the risk of crime and enhance the general well-being of residents.

*More Development Projects*

The Bantama MP also highlighted a number of development initiatives undertaken in the constituency, including road projects, health facilities, AstroTurf pitches and other infrastructure projects.

He further announced plans to provide financial support to market women within the constituency to enable them to expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods.

Reflecting on his personal experience, Hon. Asenso-Boakye said his mother was a petty trader whose hard work contributed significantly to his education and upbringing.

«“My mother was a petty trader, and through her hard work she was able to support my education and bring me this far. Supporting market women is one of the ways we can empower families and promote economic growth,” he stated.»

*Assembly Members Commend MP*

The Chairman of the Assembly Members and Assembly Member for the Kokoso–Asubonteng Electoral Area, Hon. Amoako Asante Francis, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, commended Hon. Asenso-Boakye for what he described as his continued support for development within the Bantama Constituency.

He expressed confidence that the newly distributed streetlights would significantly improve visibility, enhance security and contribute to the socio-economic development of the beneficiary communities.

The distribution forms part of ongoing efforts to address infrastructural and community development needs across the Bantama Constituency.
