The Member of Parliament for Tano North, Dr. Gideon Boako, has clarified that the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has no preferred candidates in the upcoming NPP Regional Executive Elections.

According to Dr. Boako, claims that Dr. Bawumia has endorsed or directed delegates to vote for particular candidates, especially in the Ashanti Region, are false.

Speaking on Kumasi-based OTEC FM’s Afternoon Political Show – Dwabrem on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, Dr. Boako stated that Dr. Bawumia remains committed to promoting unity within the party rather than interfering in the internal elections.

He explained that from the Polling Station Elections, the flagbearer made it clear that he would not interfere in the party’s internal processes, as his priority is to maintain unity and cohesion.

Dr. Boako therefore urged party members and the general public to disregard claims suggesting that Dr. Bawumia is backing particular candidates

Any list circulating in my name or purporting to represent my sanctioned choices should therefore be treated with caution.

The delegates will decide. The party must remain united.
